On March 8, 2007 Lilac City Combined Club Secretary Fran and Treasurer Donna accompanied Jane and delivered two checks to Spokane organizations
YMCA of the Inland Northwest
To support the expansion of the program DEAR – Drop Everything and Read. This program works with youth from kindergarten to the third grade. It is an after-school and summer program which combines school-based and YMCA resources – staff, libraries and technology equipment – to motivate children to read at or above their grade level by the third grade. Qwest’s funding will enable the program to grow from 11 sites to a full 21 sites, effectively extending literacy to an additional 300 children, one-fourth of whom are low income.
UNITED WAY OF SPOKANE COUNTY

Lilac City Combined Club meets the third Thursday of each month, September through May, at the Knights of Columbus hall, 302 E. Boone Ave., Spokane, WA from 11:15am to about 1:30pm. We have a buffet lunch, announcements, sometimes a program and lots of visiting and fellowship. The executive committee meets that same day at 9:00am for a business meeting and any member is welcome to attend.
Verna Harshbarger was awarded Sparkplug of the Year at the Chapter Awards Banquet. She has kept track of our membership and prepared calling lists for many years.
We continue to collect old cell phones to be given to domestic violence prevention programs. Currently we are collecting cancelled stamps from our mail. They are sent to a veterans hospital for use in therapeutic artwork.
Patty Boyce is our President and she may be reached on (509) 466-2668.
