The Sioux J.L.W. Zietlow Council Telecom Pioneer Luncheon was held October 27, 2009 at the Royal Fork Buffet, Sioux Falls, SD. President, Kristy Zuraff called the meeting to order followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and a silent tribute to departed and ill Pioneers.  Kristy asked for a motion for approval of the minutes. A motion was made by Chuck Jensen and seconded by Gordon Benda to approve the minutes.  Motion passed.  Minutes approved. 

 

Treasurer’s ReportKristy reported for Treasurer, Dale Axtell – beginning balance $1801.82 – cost for The Banquet - $946.01 – donation $40 -   Balance remaining $895.81.  A motion was made by Tom DeVries and seconded by Bob Denny to approve the treasurer’s report.  Motion passed.  Report approved.

 

Fellowship: Addie sent cards to:  Bill Merrifield, Arlington, surgery; Bob Lund, open heart surgery; Merin Johnson, Arlington, 90th birthday and Ralph Dearborn family, Ralph, Skip's, death.

 

Education:   Nothing to report.

 

Historical:  Bob Denny reported the display rack for the 2400 pair cable has been built by Joe and is ready for display.  Doug Fahrendorf assisted us in obtaining 17 old test sets used by the outside forces, along with numerous miscellaneous tools.  These items need to be cleaned and photographed.  They will then be added to our inventory.  At last something new in the museum, Bob Donat contributed a section of the inner duct that the outside forces will be using when they place fiber optic cable in the underground duct system.

 

Community Service:   Sioux J.L.W. Zietlow Council served 280 at the Banquet on October 13.

 

Newspaper & Website:  Nothing to report.

 

Program:   Diana Borgum treated the group by telling ghost stories and shared a bit of history about ghost stories.

 

Old Business:  A representative for the “Awards” committee is still needed.  This person will be responsible for listing all projects and filling out the paperwork necessary to submit the project for consideration by National for annual awards.  Sandi Kreber has bags available for cell phone recycling. All are reminded to turn in volunteer hours to Verla Fritz.  “Reader for Life books have been delivered to Watertown and Huron.

 

New Business:   The Council will be participating in the Salvation Bell Ringing December 5th.  The location will be Lewis Drug, 41st and Minnesota.  Call Jack Shaffer, 330-9003 to select the time that will work best for you.  The Annual Holiday Christmas Luncheon will be held December 3 at All Occasions from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM.  Cost is $14.  RSVP to Nancy Herrick, 338-5930 or Delores Wessel, 339-0704 by November 23.  In conjunction with Pioneer Week a Bingo and Pot Luck will be November 8 from 5PM to 8PM at the Qwest Building.

The next regular meeting of Sioux J.L.W. Zietlow Council will be held at the Royal Fork on Tuesday, November 24, 2009. 

 

A motion to adjourn was made by Don Kachelhoffer and seconded by Roger Amdahl  Motion carried.  Meeting adjourned. There were 36 members present at today's meeting.
