The Sioux J.L.W. Zietlow Council Telecom Pioneer Luncheon was held March 23, 2010 at the Royal Fork Buffet, Sioux Falls, SD.  President Kristy Zuraff called the meeting to order followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and a silent tribute to departed and ill Pioneers.  Kristy asked for a motion of approval of February minutes.  Motion made by Don Kachelhoffer and seconded by Jack Shaffer to approve minutes.  Minutes approved.

Treasurer’s Report:  Balance as of February 28, 2010 is $861.77 reported by Kristy Zuraff and confirmed by Verla Fritz.  Motion to approve Treasurer’s report made by Gordon Benda and seconded by Jack Shaffer.  Treasurer’s report approved.

Fellowship:  Addie sent cards to Velma Husman in the death of her son, Vern;  Angie Aschoff and Rose Ann Ryan – death of brother-in-law; Everett Husen – hospitalized with aneurysm and placement of stint; Renae Johnson – death of Bettty Buckley; Charles and Anna Murray in Sanford Hospital; Howard Moe – back surgery; LaVonne Huls – hospitalized; Laurel Miller – death of wife, Elsie; Florence Phillips – Rapid City hospital.

Historical:  Contributions received from various sources in the last month or two and have been from various NWB functions.  Some duplicates will be offered for sale at the fundraisers.  Donations from Maxine Sharpe were also received.  Items donated were for sale through the Pioneer store at one time and will be made available at the fundraisers.

One display case in the lobby will be used to display the quilt donated by Lillian Leitheiser for a fundraiser.  It will be set up for the first fund-raising event.

Education:  Nothing                    Community Service:  Nothing

Newsletter:  Printing of the newsletter will be done on March 31, 2010.

Fundraising:  Jane Denny had nothing specific to report at this time.  She stated they will try to have a fundraiser the end of April.

Old Business:  Baskets for the Beep Easter Egg hunt in Aberdeen have been filled and will be taken up to Aberdeen on Saturday.  Tickets have been printed for the quilt raffle.  Tickets are 6 for $5.00 or $1.00 each.  Bob will take a picture of the quilt so it can be printed in the newsletter.  We need a Membership Chairperson to be in charge of recruiting new members and keeping new members informed of projects available for them to volunteer.  We need to increase participation from everyone.

New Business:  Bob reported for Sandy on the Annual Meeting in Atlanta Georgia attended by her and Dale Axtell.  A book showing several of our projects we have completed was entered for an award.  We did well, as we received 2 big awards.  One award is from the Region covering the 14 states served by Qwest.  We received the Chapter of the Year award.  We also received the Project Excellence Award for Human Enrichment for the Vicki Powers project done in Rapid City last year.  Next year is the 100th Anniversary of the Pioneers.  The Annual Meeting will be held in Boston, MA.  The Chapter project for this year will be building a picnic shelter down in Canton.  Swede Svendsen will be heading up this project.  We need to be thinking of some projects for 2011.  There is grant money available for projects we come up with.  The Beep Ball World Series will be held in Rochester, MN this summer.  It is possible they will want volunteers and they would also like a donation to purchase some Beep Balls.  The council approved a donation for Beep Balls; however, it would come from the Chapter and will need to be approved on the Chapter level.  Kristy has reserved the picnic shelter at Sertoma Park for the Breakfast in the Park for August 7, 2010.  It has been reserved from 7 AM – 1 PM.  Kristy mentioned the Region may be looking at Facebook and Twitter accounts for social media methods for getting our name out there.

Raffle Tickets:  George Nelsen, Addie Donaldson, Evelyn Blashill, Kristy Zuraff, and Marne Shaffer.

Newsletter Drawing:  George Nelsen

Door Prize:  Bob Denny

Chapter Raffle Drawing:  Lucille Stoll, Piedmont, SD.
