South Dakota Chapter 119 Qwest Pioneers held a conference call on April 16, 2008. Officers present were: Gene Cordes, Sandy Kreber, Gordon Paulson, Bob Denny, Kristy Zuraff, Darcy Lekness, and Verla Fritz. Group leader present was Phyllis Kohlmeyer.
Minutes & Treasurer’s Report: Gene asked if everyone had a chance to read the minutes from the March conference call and if there were any changes. Darcy stated she had not received them. Verla will add her name to the list for distribution. No changes mentioned; minutes approved as issued. Verla stated she had gone back and did monthly reports for October-December 2007 and January-March 2008 with the information she had in the computer. She has sent this information to Joyce Berry in Denver (our contact person in the PAC center). Verla asked Joyce to check the reports for accuracy. Verla also informed her that South Dakota had not received any monthly reports since October 2007. She also stated the reports do not have any interest shown, as we have no idea how much interest for each month has been earned. Income for March 2008 for SD Chapter 119 was $70.00 and expenses were $110.76. Total net worth for March 2008 is $11,977.28.
Region Conference Call: Gene stated they had the “money person” on the conference call. They are doing a lot of changing of regulations. One is that any deposit over $100.00 requires two officer’s signatures. Anything over $600.00 requires a 1099. Verla asked if this was from one person or several people. Gene did not ask details at this time. Gene brought up on-line banking and some other states were backing him up. They stated the plan is to get banking on-line and South Dakota will be the first. Gene asked Sandy about the recruitment packages and Sandy stated she had not received them yet. She had received an e-mail asking what we are interested in being involved with but has not heard anything back yet. Gene stated the packets are being mailed out April 21. He also stated there are changes coming in how the Region will be reimbursing expenses for attending annual meetings in the future. Sandy and Verla both stated they are changing the rules after the fact! Darcy made a motion that in the future the Chapter covers expenses the Region does not cover while attending Region/annual meetings. Bob Denny seconded motion. Motion passed. They also stated each state should have an Awards Chairman.
Old Business: The city of Sioux Falls is checking on another shelter to be built in August or September. They will be getting back to us later. Verla informed Bob that she still has not heard back from Cindy regarding Life Member Certificates.
New Business: Verla will fill out a voucher for Bob Denny to sign for an advance for the Storybook Island project. The advance will be mailed to Gordon Paulson. Bob asked Gene if he will be installing Kristy as the President at the next Sioux JLW Zietlow Council meeting. Bob will find the information required for the installation. Gordon stated Qwest donated $50,000 for a new playground and the groundbreaking will be April 21, 2008. Darcy stated she mailed vouchers to the PAC on March 14, 17 and 21. They received the money for the March 14th voucher one day last week and received the other 2 on April 14. There was discussion about another person authorized to sign vouchers for the Chapter. Sandy made a motion that Tom DeVries be a Delegated Authority to sign vouchers for SD Chapter 119. Darcy seconded motion; motion passed. Darcy also stated she has checked into hats and t-shirts for the Storybook Island project. She was wondering if Public Relations would be paying for part of the expense. Bob will talk with Jeff Carmon. Estimated cost for hats and t-shirts is $600.00.
Round Table: Nothing
